About the IAA...

The International Accreditation Agency (IAA) is an independent and ‘Not-for-Profit’ Agency (Company Limited by Guarantee) which is funded through fees charged for its accreditation services to Certification Bodies and Training Organisations. The IAA initially traded as a non-limited company.

The IAA employs its own independent accreditation framework and also promotes the mutual recognition of accreditation agencies for the benefit of worldwide ISO certification, recognition and continued development of International Standards.

The IAA firmly believes that its approach encourages the proliferation of harmonised standards resulting in increased international trade, commerce and employment.

Certification Bodies that share this philosophy are invited to apply for IAA membership.

Accreditation...

Accreditation is used on a worldwide basis to facilitate the breaking down of technical barriers to trade.

It is important for suppliers of goods and services to be assessed and audited by independent accredited Certification Bodies to ensure their Management Systems conform to International best practice Standards.

Governments’ obligations under world trading agreements e.g. compliance with EU Directives and the WTO TBT (World Trade Organisation Technical Barriers to Trade) Agreement further enforces the importance of the work undertaken by accreditation agencies such as the IAA.

The IAA symbol of accreditation is only available to IAA accredited Certification Bodies. This Mark allows prospective users of accredited certification services to gain significant competitive advantage over their competitors.

Certification...

Certification ensures that appropriate management systems meet relevant international standards thereby, ensuring consistency of products and services being produced and supplied through the implementation of continuous quality assurance processes.

IAA accredited Certification Bodies, give confidence to suppliers, customers and consumers of certified companies.

Companies of all sizes and industry sectors choose independent certifications either through choice to reduce the risk, or as a consequence of legal requirements such as health and safety regulations. The most common certifications cover these four key ISO Management Systems Standards:-

• ISO 9001 Quality Management
• ISO 14001 Environmental Management
• ISO 27001 Information Security
• OHSAS 18001 Health & Safety
